Proactiv May be Better for Teens than for Adults

Proactiv uses Benzoyl Peroxide in a moisturizing form to kill bacteria.  Benzoyl Peroxide seems to dry out the skin, which is not an effective treatment for adults, as adults tend to have dry skin.  Benzoyl Peroxide is more helpful for teens that tend to have more oily skin. Proactiv seems to address the needs for teens, but may not be effective at treating adults with acne.  While acne is caused by clogged pores in teens and adults, the cause of the clogged pores is not the same.

A teen experiences clogged pores due to excessive oils, whereas an adult experiences clogged pores due to dead skin cells.   Because Proactiv tends to have more of a drying effect on the skin, it is possibly better for a teenager’s oily skin rather than an adult’s dry skin.

Tip for Proactiv Cleanser

The cleanser seems to run out faster than the toner and lotion.  A tip to get the cleanser to last a little longer is to cut the tube.  This will actually give you about two more weeks of cleanser.   As this is a fairly expensive acne treatment, a couple of weeks go a long way.

Proactiv Reviews – Conflicting

Proactiv has conflicting reviews.  For some, Proactiv does what it should; however, for others, it is not performing as it says and in some cases is causing worse problems with acne.

Proactiv seems to help teens to clear up the skin initially.  The skin becomes clear, but then after a few months of use, it seems to lose its effect for some users.   Teens have claimed that Proactiv has helped with the “big” pimples, but does not help prevent new pimples from developing.  If you decide to use Proactiv, expect to still have some pimples.

The repairing lotion is rich in anti-irritants; however, it has been said that calling it a lotion is confusing, as it is a very drying product.   It is recommended to use a moisturizer along with the repairing lotion.

Poor customer service has been a common complaint among users.  It is recommended that you keep all receipts if you purchase Proactiv.  Also, some have had problems getting the automatic shipments to stop upon cancellation.

Alternatives to Proactiv

While Proactiv has had amazing results for some people, it has not worked for all.  If you decide to try Proactiv and it does not work for you, there are other treatments you can try.  Many people are going the all natural route and having amazing results.

There are many products available for acne.  Proactiv may work for you.  Proactiv seems to have more success with those who have oily skin types.  This is a product that you will have to try for yourself in order to see if it works for you.  However, if you have sensitive or dry skin, it may be in your best interest to seek alternative treatments.
