Hair Color Ideas: Choosing the Right Color to Enhance your Looks
Hair Beauty - Hair Color

Are you looking for a change?  Sometimes choosing a hair color can be a little intimidating, especially if you are going to color your hair yourself.  Learning some different hair color ideas can help make this task a little easier and little less intimidating.  It is important to understand that learning some hair color ideas does not only involve choosing a color, but it can involve other things, such as your skin tone and the color of your eyes.

Hair Color Ideas – Deciding on Warm or Cool

Are you warm or cool?   To determine a color that will look great on you, you will need to evaluate your natural hair color, your eye color, and your skin tone.  Colors are divided into two categories, warm and cool.  Which category do you fall into?

Warm Colors

  • Natural Hair Colors – Black, dark brown with red or gold highlights, brown, red, strawberry blonde, or auburn shades
  • Eyes – Golden brown, green, hazel, and turquoise
  • Skin Tone – Golden brown, freckled, ruddy or pale with peachy or gold undertones

Cool Colors

  • Natural Hair Colors – White, blonde, gray, blue-black, deep coffee brown, medium ash brown, medium golden brown, dishwater blonde, and salt and pepper
  • Eyes – Deep blue, gray, and deep brown
  • Skin Tone – Dark brown, olive, medium, or pail with pink undertones

Hair Color Ideas – Best Hair Colors for your Tones

Taking into consideration the above color tones for your natural hair, eyes, and skin tone, the following hair color ideas have been determined based on the above colors.

  • For those who have determined they are cool colors, raven black, ash brown, or cool blonde shades are best for you.
  • For those with warm tones, consider a rich brown, golden blonde or auburn hair coloring.

Hair Color Ideas: The Dramatic Change

Choose a hair color that goes well with your natural coloring.  You can still make a dramatic change if you like, but you should choose a shade that will compliment the coloring you have.  Once you decide on whether you are warm or cool, you will be able to find the right color for you.

  • If your coloring is cool, try a color with burgundy or fire-engine red for a dramatic change.  You should avoid yellow, gold, or bronze tones if you are cool, as this can give you a “washed out” look.
  • If your coloring is warm, try deep chocolate, golden brown, auburn, golden blonde, red, and colors with orange highlights for a dramatic change.  Avoid blue, violet, and white colors, as they can give you a pale look.

Hair Color Ideas – Going Red

Red tends to be a popular color.  There are many types of shades and tones.  The problem is that red tends to fade the fastest.  For a longer lasting shade of red, try a red that has more brown in it.  While they are not as vibrant, they will hold for a longer period of time.

Hair Color Ideas – The Natural Look

If natural is the look you are going for, try a color that is within two shades of your natural color.  This will give you a nice change that will lift your spirits, but will not make you feel like people are staring at your new hairstyle.

Hair Color Ideas – Getting Rid of the Gray

You don’t have to just accept that gray!  If you want to cover the gray, a permanent hair color should be used.  Over the years, permanent coloring has become safer with the improved formulas.  Did you know that permanent hair coloring can make your gray hair less wiry?

Hair Color Ideas – Taking the Focus off of the Frizz

If your hair is frizzy, it is important to choose the right hair coloring.  Choosing darker colors can actually mask the frizz by making it look healthier and smoother.  Stay away from the light highlights and choose tones that are warmer.  Warmer tones will help to reflect more light, which will take the focus off of the frizz.

Hair Color Ideas – Avoid the Brassy Tones

Brassy tones tend to be associated with hair coloring.  Avoid exposure to sunlight.  Swimming and direct sunlight can cause that brassy tone.  Consider choosing a color with an ash base instead of a gold base.

Coloring your hair can be an exciting experience if you consider these hair color ideas.   Take your time choosing a color, and you are sure to have stunning results.
